Friday Night football returns to the Masher Brothers Community Stadium when SC Thamesmead commence their FA Vase campaign against Tooting and Mitcham United.

It has been an interesting start to the season for the Acre, to say the least. They started with a nil-nil draw at home to Stansfeld, a scoreline that gave no suggestion of what was to follow. Their next match was a six-one home defeat to Croydon but then they had three consecutive high scoring away wins, five-nil at Welling Town, five-one at FC Elmstead and four-nil at Staplehurst Monarchs. They then retuned home and were beaten four-one by Minster.

Combined Counties League Premier Division South is one step higher than the Southern Counties East Football League Division One, and Tooting and Mitcham United have already played eight league matches. The most recent one took place at Virginia Water on Tuesday evening where they lost three-two. That left them in ninth place in the table having won three and lost five.

While the club from Thamesmead won’t be favourites due to playing at a lower tier, they have goal threats everywhere. Despite having scored seventeen, their leading scorer has only scored three so it’s not just a matter of neutralising a main man. They will look to come out all guns blazing in the hopes of claiming a higher level scalp.
