Although there were opportunities at each end, neither Sporting Club Thamesmead nor Stansfeld could break the deadlock in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division curtain raiser.

Adam Wallis had an early shot for Stansfeld that was saved easily by Michael Crabbe before he delivered a free kick that George Porter headed wide. Then, at the other end, Patrick Dennis sent over a teasing cross-shot that Charlie Cottrell had to tip over.
Midway through the first half, Wale Odedoyin got on the end of a free kick but his header was saved comfortably by Cottrell and Crabbe also had a straightforward catch when Rob Hughes got on the end of a deep cross and tried to side-foot a volley past him.

After Jack Calvert had shot just the wrong side of the post for Stansfeld, the Acre had a good spell and Cottrell made a brilliant save to deny Joseph Ikuesan who had been set up by a pull back from Owen Jeavons. Cottrell made another outstanding save from a Jeavons shot before the goalkeeper beat out a strike by Jamie Williams.
Calvert had the last chance of the first half with a twenty yard shot that went just past the post.
Early in the second period Ikuesan workeed it through to Odedoyin and his low shot drew another great save from Cottrell. However, a string of substitutions then caused the match to become disjointed and there were fewer chances. Nana Kufour shot over for the visitors after Calvert’s shot was blocked.

Substitute Alfie Raishbrook hit a shot from the edge of the penalty area straight at Crabbe then Thamesmead’s Lewis Cann clipped in a cross that Henry Awokere could only head wide at full stretch. Cottrell had to turn around a shot by Geddis but neither goalkeeper was bothered again and the teams had to settle for a point apiece.
