Rotherham United 0-2 Charlton Athletic

Charlton got a deserved 2-0 win against Rotherham at the New York Stadium‎ on Saturday afternoon.

Headers in each half from Patrick Bauer and Josh Magennis were enough to s‎ecure the points for Karl Robinson’s team.

Robinson fielded the same side that performed so well against Northampton last week, and he was able to welcome Andrew Crofts back to the substitutes bench. Ben Reeves was still missing

Charlton started brightly, but Rotherham should have taken an early lead. Kieffer Moore’s cross from the right reached Jamie Proctor, but the striker miscued from two yards out and his effort drifted wide of the post.

The Addicks went ahead after 16 minutes. Ricky Holmes’ corner from the left was met by a solid header by Patrick Bauer, who put the ball into the right-hand corner of Richard O’Donnell’s ‎net.

‎Billy Clarke put the ball in the net after 27 minutes, but his effort was ruled out for offside. Clarke had another effort disallowed for offside in the second half.

Tariqe Fosu was clear on the halfway line three minutes before the break, but was stopped in his tracks by Joe Mattock who hauled him down. The defender received a yellow card for his troubles.

‎O’Donnell had to make a spectacular flying save to foil Holmes a minute before the interval.

Magennis added the second midway through the second period. A deep cross from the ever dangerous Holmes was nodded in from close range by the Ulsterman.

The Millers were enraged that Trevor Kettle allowed play to continue when Proctor was injured ‎in the build up to the goal.

The Rotherham front man attempted a crude challenge to stop the Charlton attack, injured himself in the process, and had to be stretchered off.

‎Robinson will be elated with the way his team controlled the game. They were away from home against good opposition, and will be relishing next week’s trip to Oldham.

Ben Amos done all that was asked of him, and had his best game in an Addicks shirt.

The game at Boundary Park definitely goes ahead, but the Addicks will be without Jay Dasilva and Magennis.
