Rochester United 4-0 Lordswood

Rochester United produced a clinical second-half performance to secure a convincing 4–0 victory over Lordswood, overcoming a cautious opening period to take full control after the break.

The match began in tentative fashion, with both sides struggling to assert dominance. Rochester were largely limited to speculative long-range efforts during the opening 15 minutes, unable to break down a disciplined Lordswood setup.

The first real opportunity arrived in the 20th minute when Spartans’ Sam Adams delivered a dangerous cross. The ball was punched clear by the Lordswood goalkeeper but dropped invitingly behind Gary Lockyer, who was unable to capitalise. Just two minutes later, Lockyer thought he had given Rochester the lead, only for the assistant referee’s flag to rule the effort out for offside.

Lordswood grew into the half through set pieces, testing Rochester’s defensive organisation. Their best chance came in the 37th minute when Thomas Davey struck the crossbar, reacting quickest to the rebound before seeing his follow-up effort well blocked by a resolute Rochester defence.

Despite moments of promise at both ends, the teams went into the break level at 0–0.

The second half followed a similar pattern early on, with Wilkins firing high and wide on 52 minutes, before Lockyer and Payne both missed the target from distance shortly after. However, the deadlock was finally broken in the 59th minute.

A well-delivered corner from Sam Adams found Mack Reilly, who drove a low effort into the net to give Rochester the lead. Reilly nearly doubled his tally moments later but struck straight at the goalkeeper.

Rochester’s second goal came in the 63rd minute under contentious circumstances. Lockyer closed down the Lordswood keeper, forcing an error before squaring the ball to Reilly, who calmly slotted home. The goalkeeper protested for a foul, but the referee allowed the goal to stand.

With momentum firmly on their side, Rochester continued to press. Luke Adams saw a deflected effort well saved in the 67th minute, while Reilly was denied a hat-trick shortly after following a strong run and another impressive stop from the keeper.

The third goal arrived in the 77th minute when Harrison Hume delivered an excellent ball into the area, finding Payne, who finished confidently to put the result beyond doubt.

Deep into stoppage time, Rochester added further gloss to the scoreline. Medley timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap before cutting inside and curling a composed left-footed finish into the net, sealing a dominant 4–0 victory.

After a cagey first half, Rochester United’s quality and persistence ultimately proved decisive, with an emphatic second-half display securing a spot to face SE Dons in Saturday’s SCEFL Division One play off final.
