Reeves out until September
Reeves out until September

The injury prone Ben Reeves picked up an Achillles knock in training, that prevented him going to Portugal for this week’s training camp.

The knock will sideline him until September, and he had this to say about the situation:

“‎I’m gutted and really frustrated. I’d done a lot of work during the summer to try and make sure that I was ready for the start of pre-season.

“I was determined to come back in the best possible condition and to pick up an injury a couple of days into it is so gutting.

“Hopefully I can get myself back out onto the pitch as quickly as possible and I’ll be doing everything I can to make sure that is the case.”

Head of Medical Services, Alastair Thrush, added:

“Ben has sustained an acute small tear in his left Achilles tendon, which requires a short period of immobilisation in a boot for four weeks.

“Thereafter, he will require a further period of rehabilitation and fitness work to bring him to a level where he would have been if he had followed the normal pre-season programme with the squad.

“All being well, it is anticipated that he will be back in full training around the beginning of September.”

The Addicks start their pre-season campaign with a behind-closed-doors game at QPR’s Harlington training ground on Saturday morning.

Lee Bowyer will field a different team in each half, and Steve McClaren is likely to do similar. His QPR side have also been in Portugal this week.

Here are Bowyer’s comments about the game:

‎”It will be interesting to see how Igor does, I’ve not seen him, so I want to see him in a proper game situation.

“He’ll play 45 minutes obviously. It will be good to see people I haven’t seen before. I know what my lads can do, the ones that were here at the end of last season,

” I know what they are all capable of. I’m interested to see Taylor (Maloney), George (Lapslie) and obviously Igor and Simon (Dawkins ).”
