Ray takes title fight to Brands Hatch

Bradley Ray is still right in the hunt for the Bennetts Superbike Championship, with a double podium at Oulton Park last weekend.

He took a win, a second place and a ninth place finish to go into the final round of the season with a 30 point deficit but with 105 points still to play for at Brands Hatch.

Saturday ended up being damage limitations for Ray having selected the wrong tyres.

With the race being declared as a wet one, he went with the soft option rather than the hard one. That meant that after a few laps a the track dried, he slipped back down the field.

He managed to bring the bike home in ninth and collect some points but he lost further ground on Kyle Ryde who finished on the podium.

Sunday race one, looked like it could be a challenge for Ray. Starting on wets he was struggling to make some progress forwards to challenge Ryde who was out front with Fraser Rogers.

Then the red flag came out, once the race started again sometime later, it was a dry race. It was like watching Ray of the first half of these season.

He carved his way through from 14th and on the last lap he took Iddon and Haslam to take one of the wins of the season. With Ryde fourth he took seven points out of the championship lead.

The final race of the weekend saw Ray start from pole position, and he tried to get away from the pack at the front. That didn’t happen as Ryde went and others went with him.

He then backed into the pack, and others took the lead but Ray wasn’t done and he worked his way back into third and on the last lap he was in the box seat to capitalise on Haslam’s mistake and take second place.

It is now all to play for as the season heads to Brands Hatch for it’s finale in two weeks time.

Speaking after the weekend, Ray said: “After a difficult start to the weekend, it was great to be able to turn things around with today’s success. I feel really pleased to have brought home a win for the team, the last couple of rounds haven’t been easy, so it’s nice to pay them back for all of the hard work.

“I’m feeling happy with our performance this weekend; we took some points away from Kyle in the championship standings, and that’s what matters.

“We’ll head towards Brands Hatch with the aim of replicating today’s form in an attempt to put up a hard fight for the championship crown.”
