Prestedge keen to keep play-off push going

Sittingbourne boss Reece Prestedge has challenged his side to push on from the win over South-East leaders Three Bridges at Woodstock last weekend as the Brickies head to the Sussex coast on Saturday to face an Eastbourne Town side still occasionally glancing over their shoulders at the wrong end of the table.

That win over the leaders took Sittingbourne back into fourth place in the table a position that the manager clearly aims to keep as he told us this week.

“It was a real professional performance to win last week to be fair,” the Brickies boss carried on. “Not just because it was the side top of the League, I think that it was just an outstanding performance from everyone really. We reduced them to playing a way that they didn’t like – we frustrated them but at same time, I think we created a number and the best chances at the same time.”

In the run up to the game, Prestedge was able to bolster his squad by persuading striker Mitchell May to return to the club where he had been top scorer for the past two seasons, and it was May who created the goal for his new strike parter Harvey Smith.

“I knew that Harvey and Mitch together could cause them problems and in truth it was a toss-up between them and Derek (Asamoah) as now we have some real fire power up front. They combined well which is what we asked them to do – Harvey played a ball out wide from the halfway line and drives himself into the box to get the goal,it was great to see.”

“We knew how they would want to play, playing the ball through the thirds and combine in the middle but I think we got our structure and our pressure spot on!”

“We know that we have to go to Eastbourne on Saturday and repeat the job. I have always said that you get three points at home and get what we can away from Woodstock and as good as the Bridges win is or was, it will mean nothing Saturday is we come back from Sussex with nothing.”

“They call this the business end of the season for a reason! You have teams fighting and rolling their sleeves up to stay in Leagues and win things finishing as strongly as they can – there are no easy games in this League especially now and so mentality wise, you have to go every game with the right mentality and as strong as you can be.”

Under Prestedge the Brickies have lost just once in eighteen a 3-1 defeat to AFC Croydon two Saturday’s ago – and the manager is keen to get going on another run to the seasons end; “That has to be the aim of any football manager – you want to go on great runs to build up momentum especially if you want that top five place. If we do end up in the play-offs what better way to do that than to take form with us. We will take each game as it comes at the moment and try to keep the performances of late going!”
