Prestedge desperate for his Brickies side to get a game

Sittingbourne head up the A2 this weekend to face Erith Town at Thamesmead hoping primarily just to get a game in as manager Reece Prestedge admitted to us this week, “We just need a game!”

Reece Prestedge’s side terrific pre-Christmas form has been blocked somewhat by the weather since the turn of the year, with the Brickies playing just two of six scheduled games due to the weather – a position that has left the boss with mounting levels of frustration as he looks for his side to build on the run of twenty nine points from a possible thirty three since he took the Woodstock hot seat.

“We’ve been hit hard by postponements,” the Brickies boss admitted. “You have to make sure that the mentality doesn’t change as tough as it is, we are now looking at the run we have been on, we really have to start again as that momentum has probably passed now! You now have to get up and start the run again going into Saturday’s and Tuesday’s you are going to be under pressure again when you go three or four weeks playing twice a week!”

“We hope and want to play this weekend,” Prestedge told KSN this week. “Previous games having been called off and with Erith being called off Tuesday, with the forecast of more rain before the weekend, we don’t know and still have to prepare as if we are playing.

“We have had a run of fixtures where we are playing teams with grass pitches – all the 3G pitches will go ahead and then its luck of the draw I suppose when you go through this period of the season. It’s frustrating for us obviously as our home games are grass and we have lost two of them now and so when the away games are grass too, we have what we currently have!”

“If the game is on Saturday, we know that Erith at Erith is always tough. There really are no easy games in this league – you cannot look at any games and think that they are a given. Erith have had a couple of good results recently, but they didn’t play Tuesday either so it’s going to be about who’s mentality is going to be better on the day.”

“They are a good side with some good players in their team who can provide you with threats so we will have to go there with the right mentality and whichever team does that on the day and does the basics best will probably come away and win the game!”

“Training has been good; we have been doing a lot of fitness work as game time is very limited at the moment – the morale in the team is high, they’re still in good spirits which is good to see… we just need a game!”
