Potters Bar Town vs Welling United – Preview

Finishing a spell of three consecutive away games, Welling United travel to Potters Bar Town for a huge Isthmian League Premier Division relegation encounter.

Both clubs are currently in the bottom three of the league table. The Wings have twenty-eight points, one behind Cray Valley (PM), and four behind Carshalton Athletic and Hashtag United. All three have played one additional match. Potters Bar are two points behind Welling having played the same number of games.

Last Saturday, the Wings visited play off chasing Burgess Hill Town and suffered late disappointment. Going into stoppage time, they held a one-nil lead through Sam Smith’s goal. However, Burgess Hill equalised in the first minute of stoppage time then claimed the winner eight minutes later.

Meanwhile, Potters Bar were at league leaders Folkestone Invicta and also went down to defeat having been ahead. Nana Kyei put them in front ten minutes into the second half. Jake Hutchinson levelled for the hosts eleven minutes later, then scored what turned out to be the winner after a further six minutes.

This will be their first meeting and both teams are together in the form guide over the last six matches. The Wings have collected seven points, and Potters Bar six.

Ryan Maxwell, Welling’s manager, will have a new signing at his disposal. Twenty-one year old striker Noah Stewart has joined on a twenty-eight day loan from Maidenhead United and will be available for selection.

There will again be a full supporters coach running organised by the Welling United Supporters Association so, with others travelling by car and train, a very good turnout of Wings’ followers is expected.
