Talented young striker, Joe Pigott, signed a 3-year deal at The Valley on Tuesday. Pigott has emerged as a regular in the first team squad this season and joins Callum Harriott in being contracted until 2016.

Maidstone born Pigott will not be 20 until November but has an impressive scoring record with the club’s junior sides. He netted 16 times in 20 appearances for the Under-21 team last season, as well scoring four times during a loan spell at Bromley.

Pigott started both Capital One Cup games for Charlton this season, opening his senior scoring account when he netted a penalty in the 4-0 victory over Oxford. He made his league debut against Leicester on Saturday, when he came on as a late sub for Simon Church.

The Addicks are expected to sign a back-up keeper for Ben Hamer before the end of the week. Hamer has played every game this season which suggests Chris Powell is concerned about Nick Pope’s lack of experience.

Pope has been on the bench this season following the departures of John Sullivan to Portsmouth, and David Button to Brentford. Pope is a very promising keeper, but his league experience is limited to one sub appearance against Bristol City, when he replaced the injured Button for the last nineteen minutes of the game.

Ben Alnwick seems to be the likely arrival. Alnwick had his contract at Barnsley cancelled by mutual consent on Monday. Players do not do that unless they have another club lined up.

Alnwick is 26-years old and made his debut for Sunderland as a teenager. He was transferred to Tottenham during the 2006/07 season but made just one Premier League appearance for the North London club.

Whilst at White Hart Lane, Alnwick had loan spells at Luton, Leicester, Carlisle, Norwich, Leeds, Doncaster and Leyton Orient before joining Barnsley last season.

Alnwick would be expected to put pressure on Hamer for the first team jersey.
