Phoenix Sports 0-3 Herne Bay

Herne Bay banished the memories of last weekends defeat with an impressive win on the road at Phoenix Sports on Saturday afternoon.

There were a number of changes to last week with a start for Dan Lawrence, Bradley Stevenson, Daniel Carrington and a debut for new signing, Jordan Hibbert.

Bay’s defence looked very solid and played very much like we did in the last three pre-season games.

Dan Carrington at left back had a very impressive game, as did Lawrence in the midfield.

A scrappy game but Bay were in total control so much so that Big George didn’t have to make a save for the full 96 minutes played.

Bay were fast out of the blocks, going ahead after only seven minutes; Stevenson outpaced the defender, chasing a ball to the byline, pulled the ball back to Zac Ansah, who instead of shooting, spread the ball to Tushaun-Tyreese Walters who drilled the ball across the keeper into the bottom of the goal.

With the game being played predominantly in the middle of the park no side really threatened the respective keepers, although Bay had a very good penalty shout turned away when Ansah was bundled to the ground, six yards out from the goal.

A good save from Phoenix keeper, Steve Phillips followed, turning Hibbert’s volley around the upright.

It was Phillips again getting his fingertips to a fierce volley from Ryan Cooper on 35 minutes to keep Phoenix in the game.  1-0 at half time and Bay good value for the half time lead.

The second period became even more scrappy although Bay still controlled the play even though there was little goal mouth action at either end.

The game came to life for Bay in the 85th minute; Ansah is put away on the left side of the box and fired in a fierce low drive, which Phillips brilliantly saved, De Gea, style with his trailing foot.

Not to be outdone, in the time being added on, Zak intercepted a back pass, rounded Phillips, and slotted home to double the lead.

Then the icing on the cake, substitute, Deano, out-muscles his marker and drives his shot under Phillips.

A 3-0 victory, a clean sheet and three points and the disappointment of last week forgotten.
