Parker leaves Gills for Charlton

With just over thirty minutes of the transfer window remaining it was announced that Gillingham forward Josh Parker was heading out of the club and making the short trip to Charlton Athletic.

Parker who is 28-years-old is joining the Addicks on a permanent deal, having put pen to paper on a six month contract with Charlton, in a move that many won’t have seen coming.

Parker has been with the Gills since 2017, having made his debut against Port Vale, a game in which he scored. He then signed a two year deal with the club, he has started 19 games this season.

Josh will go straight into the Addicks squad for their trip to Fleetwood Town this weekend.

Speaking about letting Parker move to Charlton, manager Steve Lovell said: “I’d like to wish Josh all the best for his future career. He has been an excellent professional and we wish him every success at Charlton.”

Charlton Boss Lee Bowyer was clearly delighted to have signed Parker, he said: “We’re pleased to get someone with his experience who knows the league inside out. He’s scored goals in this division. It was important to bring someone in who actually knows the league. He’s physical, a good strong lad. I think he’s a good all-around player.

“I can see him playing alongside Lyle, he’s got pace, he’s strong, he’s physical. He’s got that pace to be a threat in-behind and hurt teams on the break.”
