Paffett claims fifth in Moscow

Bromley’s Gary Paffett finished fifth in the DTM Premier race in Moscow – his first race at the Russian track.Motorsports / DTM: german touring cars championship 2013, Race at Moskau, Moskau Raceway

He qualified in seventh place and was the fastest of the Mercedes drivers on track, and he made up places on the grid after a good clean start.

Unfortunately for Paffett he didn’t have the pace to race the leaders and spent the majority of the race battling Jamie Green in sixth place, before passing him for fifth place. He was to finish the highest Mercedes.

Speaking after the race Gary, said: “I am happy with the result today. It was the best possible result for us as we just couldn’t find the speed all weekend. I had a pretty good battle going on with Jamie for most of the race and once I was able to pass him at the end got a nice little gap between us.

“The crew did a great job during pits stops and our strategy worked out well also. We definitely need to work hard before the Nürburgring in a couple of weeks to find that extra speed, but to have finished fifth gave me vital points and helped move me to third in the standings.”

Next up on the DTM calendar will be the Nürburgring, Germany on 18th August. This will be the seventh of the 10 races this season.
