Canterbury’s Tristan Ovenden headed into his home event at Lydden Hill on the August bank holiday Monday to contest Round 6 of the Toyo Tires British Rallycross Championship. Looking for a strong finish to boost his hunt for Supernational glory this season.

His previous outing at Lydden saw the rocket V6 Clio finish the day in the gravel trap with broken suspension.

The Goody Demolition backed driver got straight down to business but a small mistake on lap 2 of the first qualifying session saw him spin on the large loose section on Chessons Corner losing him valuable seconds but still gaining him fourth fastest overall.

The remaining qualifying sessions saw Ovenden return to the blistering form he has been enjoying over the previous rounds and was the fastest in both.

The Canterbury driver made short shift of his semi-final and crossed the line over 10 seconds ahead of the field. The final was a lights to flag display of near perfect rallycross driving skill obliterating the chasing field by 5 seconds.!

Ovenden has now closed the gap in the championship to a mere 13 points and distancing the chasing group below him.
The championship now heads back to the Welsh circuit of Pembrey for a double header for rounds 7 and 8 which will be held on 23rd and 24th of September. Racing will get underway at 09:00.

Speaking after a weekend, Tristan Ovenden, said: “In Q1 we made some set up errors….which interestingly had a big effect!! Anyway went back to what we know and was pretty good from there.

“Very pleased to win at our home round after coming so close in the spring. Pretty tough conditions actually, managing the heat, but we always have a lot of support with us at Lydden Hill, which is very much appreciated, and it’s good to be able to repay all that help with a great result. Thanks Team!”
