Ovenden rounds off perfect season

Canterbury based Rallycross driver Tristan Ovenden headed to the 2019 season finale at Croft circuit having already secured the championship crown at the previous round.

His aim at the final double header in Yorkshire was to end the year with 100% record, to win every round entered this year.

A feat not achieved for many, many years, if ever! Saturday’s round started in what can only be described as the worst weather conditions this year.

Torrential rain made the going very treacherous, giving the Goody Demolition supported driver a distinct disadvantage in the wet. He was pushed hard by the smaller nimbler cars in the class, but as the conditions eased, he was still able to secure pole position for the final.

By stark contrast Sunday was bright and dry which suited Ovenden much better.

He didn’t drop a point during the qualifying sessions and kept all his rivals at bay to once again steal the pole honours for the final time of the 2019 season.

In what has been a trademark display of power the final was a lights to flag win.

Speaking after the weekend, Ovenden, said: “What an amazing day to end the season on. Just getting to Croft was looking difficult enough, but the support from the team was our saviour again. I can’t thank them enough for their help during the season.

“I couldn’t really believe we had a shot of getting 8 out of 8, which kept playing on my mind! To complete that is incredible, which I think showed in my celebrations on track after the chequered flag!

“Thanks very much to all our sponsors for their commitment to us this season, hopefully they have enjoyed being involved in the most exciting motorsport that Rallycross is and will be keen to support us going forward”
