Despite dominating nearly all of the game, Cray Wanderers had to settle for a point in their Isthmian League Premier Division encounter with Ramsgate. After the match, Wands’ manager Tim O’Shea was pleased with the overall performance, if not the result.

“I couldn’t have asked for any more.” he said. “The first ten minutes I thought they were bright, the opposition, and had two or three decent half chances but from then on in I think we bossed it and their goalkeeper has probably made five or six outstanding saves be it top corner, be it bottom left, bottom right.”
“It took one helluva free kick to beat him in the end so without a doubt, we couldn’t ask for any more from our team.”
They had to show patience before going ahead, but even against ten men, O’Shea knew that they had work to do. “It’s never done.” he confirmed.
“You know (Alfie) Paxman’s got that in his locker. Perhaps a bit disappointed with our wall because we had said that if it’s anyway near central we need to get some height in the wall so that it’s got to go up and over, but that’s not taking anything away from Paxman, who’s done what he can do.”
Ten minutes into the second half Alex Hernandez headed home for what looked like a perfectly good goal but the assistant’s flag went up as he wheeled away to celebrate.
O’Shea said: “I was disappointed with the disallowment of the offside goal because his (the referee’s) explanation was that our captain was in a position that might, might have been interfering with the ball that was put in and I found that quite amazing, the explanation.”
“We’ve had two of them. Last week we had one, video has proved that it was two yards onside, and today I think that it’s a perfect goal chalked off again.”
Even though they had to settle for a point, it kept their unbeaten run going and O’Shea is happy with where his team is. He said: “We’ve got a good base, we’re punching. We know where we are. Until it’s mathematically impossible we’ll just keep going.”
“We’ve had some draws very similar to today where we’ve dominated the games and the goalkeeper’s made outstanding saves and we’ve had that today. Their goalkeeper was comfortably man of the match.”
