Orchison wins Walmer and Kingsdown Club Championship

Robin Orchison secured an emotional victory in the Walmer & Kingsdown GC Club Championship on Sunday.

After finishing two shots in front of runner-up Jake Vickers to claim the Barwick Cup, Orchison said: “I am delighted with this victory, particularly as my mother passed away one year ago today and I was determined to win it for her.”

The 25-year-old from St Margaret’s had gone into Sunday’s second and final round with a four-shot lead over Vickers after the two players had fired first-rounds of 67 and 71 respectively the previous weekend.

And Vickers, a former apprentice professional at Royal Cinque Ports GC, did his best to claw back the deficit with a second-round 69. But Orchison, who finished third in this year’s Kent Amateur Championship, kept his cool to shoot a 71 and so secure victory with a six-under-par total of 138.
