One Hundred wins for Birley
One Hundred wins for Birley

Rod Birley capped off another successful season by taking his 100th win in his Ford Escort WRC last weekend.Truck Meeting.

It is a truly remarkable achievement for local boy Birley, taking the wins on the Brands Hatch Indy Circuit on a particularly wet Sunday as part of the Truck Festival.

The Quaife Motorsport News Saloon Championship has been entertaining throughout the year and Rod has been right up there challenging for the championship.

West Kingsdown-based Birley has raced regularly at Brands Hatch since the early seventies, winning his first race at the circuit in 1973 in a Hillman Imp. In all he has won 166 races on the Indy circuit in 20 different machines, in addition to 12 on the Grand Prix circuit, and 566 career successes overall.

Birley whilst he couldn’t take the overall Championship this season, he would have won it by one point if results went his way. He did seal the A class title with the two victories on Sunday in the wet conditions at Brands Hatch.Truck Meeting.

Speaking after the weekend Rod, said: “Brands Hatch is a challenging circuit especially with its off camber corners. A quick lap is particularly rewarding as there is very little room for error, and most people can see the whole circuit, so you can’t make excuses!

“To score so many wins on my home circuit is hugely satisfying, as quite a few friends come to watch the races I compete in. My Ford Escort WRC goes really well around this track and the two races on Sunday proved this.”
