On the road to promotion

There are just thirteen games of the regular season left now. Due to the games at Blackpool, Shrewsbury and AFC Wimbledon being postponed, Charlton face an unbalanced run in.

They have eight away games still to play, with just five fixtures remaining at The Vallley.

The Addicks will probably need to win seven or eight of those games to qualify for the play-offs, so they will need to be in good form on the road.

Fleetwood will be the next visitors to The Valley, followed by four promotion rivals. Charlton have a patchy home record, making it imperative that they fire on all cylinders on their travels.

Fleetwood has to be a game Karl Robinson expects to win, but Plymouth, Rotherham, Scunthorpe and Blackburn are all formidable foes.

The manager may feel his team has better opportunities on the road. Peterborough, Shrewsbury and Portsmouth will be big asks.

But AFC Wimbledon, Blackpool, Northampton and Rochdae on the final day of the season, are all excellent opportunities for the Addicks to pick up a win. Charlton’s other game is at Bristol Rovers.

‎It will not be easy for Robinson’s team to reach the 75 point mark, though it is possible they could make the play-offs with a few points less.

But they will have to be at their best for the final two months of the season, and the manager will be hoping that they finally have a spell where they do not pick up any injuries.

Here are Robinson’s thoughts:

‎”It’s going to be a real hectic run-in but these players have to be ready for one of the most difficult run-ins of their careers. Physically and mentally we’ve got get ourselves ready.

“We’re in a great position, we stay positive throughout the course of next week and we get ready for Saturday afternoon.”
