Charlton had a busy last day of the transfer window, with two strikers departing, and Joe Dodoo arriving on loan from Rangers.

Ghana born Dodoo started his career at Leicester and joined Rangers last summer. Will Grigg, Matty Taylor and Matt Godden were the main names thought to be on theAddicks’ hit list, so Dodoo was something of a bolt from the blue.

Karl Robinson explained the rationale behind Dodoo’s signing:

“We have been looking for a striker that can complement what we already have. We have a big number nine in Josh Magennis and Joe gives us something different. I think fans will like him, he is quick, can stretch the game and get in behind defenders.

“It has been a really pleasing summer for us in terms of the quality we’ve been able to add to the squad and the players we’ve been able to retain. I think everyone will have seen the talent some of our new signings have and we still have Mark Marshall and a fully fit Ben Reeves to come back in – two of the best players in the division last season.

“It has been a busy few days and our focus is now very much on Oldham Athletic this weekend,” said the boss.

Dodoo added, “I’m really pleased to join Charlton, I can’t wait to get started and help the club’s promotion push.”

Brandon Hanlan joined Colchester on loan, and Lee Novak made a permanent switch to League One rivals, Scunthorpe, as Robinson shuffled his striker pack.

The manager paid this tribute to Novak:

“I’d like to put on record my thanks to Lee. He is an excellent professional and worked hard for me and the club from the moment I walked into the building.

“He was unlucky with injuries in his time here and his dedication cannot be faulted, as people will have seen most recently in the Norwich game. This, however, was a deal that was best for all involved.

“We wish him all the best for the future.”

With Josh Magennis away on international duty, Dodoo could go straight into the team at Boundary Park.

The Addicks will also be without Jay Dasilva. Johnnie Jackson will deputise.

Oldham also have two players away on international duty, and due to an injury crisis, the Latics could only name three substitutes last week. They have been busy in the transfer market this week and brought in four players on deadline day.

Charlton could look something like this:

Amos; Solly, Bauer, Pearce, Jackson; Kashi, Forster-Caskey, Fosu, Clarke, Holmes; Dodoo.

Subs: Phillips, Konsa, Sarr, Aribo, Crofts, Ahearne-Grant, Hackett-Fairchild.

The referee will be 31-year-old Ross Joyce from North Yorkshire.

Oldham have made a poor start to the season, losing all four of their League One fixtures. Robinson will not be complacent but will be confident of taking all three points from the game.
