Not what was wanted
Not what was wanted
It would have been the first visit to the world’s oldest professional sports stadium for many of Charlton’s fans who travelled to Mansfield on Sunday.

The result was not what Lee Bowyer would have wanted, and in truth, the Addicks should have won the game shortly after they restored parity.

Nicky Ajose was clear with only the Bobby Olejnik to beat, but Ajose shot straight at the Stags’ keeper.

If Charlton win the replay at The Valley, they will host either Chorley or Doncaster in the Second Round.

The replay will be staged next week – probably on Tuesday – with tickets likely to be priced at £‎10 for adults and £5 for concessions.

Before that, Bowyer’s team will face Swansea Under-21s in the Checkatrade Trophy at The Valley on Tuesday evening. A draw will be enough for the Addicks to top the group.

They would then be at home to one of the runners-up from  another Southern group in the Second Round.

However, should Swansea win, they will leapfrog Charlton and AFC Wimbledon‎ to top the group, and the Addicks will be eliminated.

‎Bowyer stated after the Mansfield game that most of Sunday’s squad would feature against Swansea.

Patrick Bauer could also make his comeback in this match.

It will be another sparse crowd at The Valley, with just the West Stand open.
