Newport County v Gillingham preview

Gillingham head to Wales on Saturday knowing defeat could see them drop into League Two’s bottom two.

Newport County are the side facing Neil Harris’ side this weekend and they haven’t been on the best run of form themselves lately and Gillingham will be hoping they can pull off a rare win.

Having scored only six goals in their opening seventeen league games of the season, Gillingham have been woeful in front of goal and they will be hoping wins against Brentford in the Carabao Cup and AFC Fylde in the FA Cup can inspire them into a decent league run.

Harris juggled his side for Tuesday night’s FA Cup 1st Round replay at Priestfield and must now come up with a combination that works this weekend.

With Ben Reeves back in contention, Harris may be tempted to give the creative midfielder a rare start, although he may have to once again settle for a place on the bench as he’s eased back into action.

Harris has an almost fully fit squad in which to choose from so excuses about lack of availability have gone out of the window and it’s time for his squad to stand up and be counted as the way things are going, non league beckons come May.

With a trip to Crawley Town to come on Tuesday night, it’s a big week ahead for The Gills. Win both games and the pressure will be off Harris and co, but lose them and they could find themselves staring down a barrel.
