New speedway team named Kent Kings

Following on from a competition to name the team, Kent Speedway today announce their official name as Kent Kings.Kent Kings2

The newly named Kent Kings are based at Central Park in Sittingbourne and will hold their first meeting on Monday 6th May at 3pm.

The logo will be the Kent flag of a rampant white horse on a red background but with the addition of a white crown.

Speaking of the decision to go with the name Kings, promoter Roger Cearns said; “There were a number of suggestions and we thank everyone who entered names but we liked Kings as Kent had its own Kings in centuries past, and we could keep the Kent Invicta logo we had been using but with the addition of a crown. There is also the connection with Kings in the County with Rochester and Leeds Castles, and the Cathedral at Canterbury.”

Cearns added; “we are keen to represent the whole county hence why we are known as Kent.”

Kings co-promoter Len Silver continued; “The sound barrier is well under way. As soon as the weather turns drier the track, now ready to lay, will be completed by mid/late February, giving the material plenty of time to settle in time for the opening on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May at 3.00pm.”

The Kent Kings have also launched their official website today at www.kentkings.co and have their own Facebook page, and a Twitter page @kentspeedway.

They are also launching today a version of their website specially designed for mobile devices.

Commercial Manager Neil “Nikko” Day said; “We are keen to introduce youngsters and their families to watch the Kings, alongside traditional speedway fans, and so the website, Facebook, Twitter and other social media are an important part of our strategy. That’s why we have also launched a specific mobile device website so fans can keep up to date on their mobiles and tablets.”

Day was also pleased to announce that six sponsors had signed up for the new season so far and that he was working towards securing a team sponsor.

Kent Kings also confirmed their first rider, and captain, is ex Conference League champion, David Mason who will bring experience to what will be a young team.

Finally, the Kent Kings confirmed that John Sampford will double up as the Team Manager of the Kings as well as continuing as the Team Manager of the Rye House Rockets in the Premier League.
