Alex Nevill edged closer to his target of top 5 in the points standings of the Mini Challenge Cooper Pro championship at Cadwell Park on Saturday (7th September) despite setbacks over the course of the day.

Qualifying at the challenging Lincolnshire circuit saw the day start on a positive note for the Kent racer, with a result of 5th place, the best qualifying result so far for the LDR Racing driver in the Pro class.

The rest of the day was to prove more difficult for Alex, 6th place was the best he could manage in race 1, following damage to the exhaust sustained on the opening lap. In race 2 the 25 year old climbed from 6th place on the grid to 4th, only to spin out of contention in the closing stages of the race. The 2018 Cooper Am champion was able to fight back to 7th place by the time the chequered flag fell, salvaging important championship points.

Though the day proved to be difficult results wise for Alex, it also proved to be tough for his nearest competitors in the championship. Having previously been 11 points off of 5th place in the championship standings, the Dartford based driver has cut that deficit down to just 5 points, with 5 races over 2 rounds left in the season.

Alex now looks forward to the remainder of the season. “It was a difficult weekend for us, but there are positives to be taken from it. We had our best qualifying result of the season, which has been our weakness all year, we were also fighting for a podium again, and whilst it didn’t work out as long as we keep putting ourselves in those positions our day will come.”

Alex’s next race weekend will be at Donington Park on the 28th-29th September, for the penultimate round of the season.
