Morris wants feel good factor back

Gillingham face Walsall and Accrington Stanley over the Easter weekend as they look to at least finish the season in decent form as after suffering five successive defeats, their season is in real danger of falling flat!

The Gills last lost six consecutive League games more than twenty years ago and going into this weekend, they face two tough yet very different challenges – veteran keeper Glenn Morris spoke to KSN at this week’s press briefing, and told us, “Considering the run that we have been on, the mood in the dressing room has been good, and we are trying to focus on the job at hand and try to pick up some much needed points. We have to be better as a group, try to stick together and make it a good Easter weekend!”

“To lose the way we did at Crawley last weekend was gutting!” Morris told us, “There was nothing in it at either end of the pitch, we just needed to see the game out; we have had a few of those though this year – we have had games that shouldn’t have finished nil-nil, but it sums up our season really!”

“I think if you work hard, you get your luck – there’s no two ways about it, but you just have to be fully committed, hardworking, and put that effort in, we will get over the line, I am sure! It is just the sticking together to make sure that we do come out the other side!”

“We all want to have a good end to the season – pick up some wins and the feel-good factor back around the place and try to lift everyone. We have these two games in quick succession which can really help in that sense – we have had a lot of things go against us, but we cannot use that as an excuse as there is still enough in the building to get some positives results.”

Morris and the Gills start the weekend at Walsall who are chasing a play-off place, and the veteran keeper admitted, “It will be a tricky game. They have Darren Byfield as their boss and they have picked up recently – it will be a tough game, but when you go to Walsall it’s always a tough game – if we can go there and put in a shift and get a result, it will be a lift for everyone.”

“We then come home on Monday and Accrington and to get three points especially here at Priestfield would be great, but first we have to fully focus on Friday and Walsall and after the final whistle there we can concentrate on Monday.

“We want to put in a decent performance here of course we do and, in that respect, Monday cannot come quickly enough. Hopefully we can get everyone back on side and really as we’ve said before, have a good push in what’s left in the season. But lots have been said and we have to step up sooner or later – that’s the way it is!”
