Memorable weekend in France for Ovenden
Memorable weekend in France for Ovenden

Tristan Ovenden finished with a podium at the Legenday Loheac Rallycross Circuit, in what was a memorable weekend for the Kent man.

Round 7 of the Motorsport UK British Rallycross Championship 5 Nations Trophy took place at the Legendary Loheac Rallycross circuit in Brittany, France. Where the British Championship joined up with the exceptionally strong French Championship over the weekend of 30th and 31st August. The promise of the biggest supercar entry at Rallycross race meeting this year didn’t disappoint with

The Goody Demolition backed driver was under no illusions as to the quality of the entry list and the enormity of the task to just be competitive. After Qualifying 1 in which he finished in second place he was 30th overall. But as his confidence grew, he started to climb the standings and got faster and faster as the event unfolded. Due in part to making good tyre choices at the right time as the weather was changeable over the weekend.

The Witham supported driver finished tied in 16th place by the end of the combined qualifying sessions and ultimately 17th place after the dreaded count back was applied! First reserve for the overall semi-finals! This was however, enough to gain him a third-place podium amongst the British drivers and also securing the Teams Championship win for the Loheac round with teammate Julian Godfrey.

Ovenden is now just a single point away from third place in the Championship with only four rounds left there’s still very much everything to drive for. Team red and yellow will now turn their attention to a return to Mondello Park in Ireland in October.

Speaking after the weekend, Ovenden said: “Wow! What an amazing weekend. We were a little surprised with our speed as the meeting went on. Yes, absolutely, the changeable weather helped at times, but we also made the right calls on tyres at the right time.

“It was such an incredible event, and to be competitively racing against probably the best Rallycross supercars in the world just now, was fantastic.

“So much thanks to the team, they should be very proud of where we got to.

“Thanks very much to them and everyone that sent us messages of support. We really appreciate it.”
