Midfielder Robbie McKenzie is looking to be a part of the Gillingham side that heads to North West London on Saturday for their final away game of another frustrating season as they head to play-off chasing Barnet.

Speaking with KSN at this week’s briefing, McKenzie, who missed out last weekend after getting a knock at Cheltenham, said, “We want to finish the season on a positive note going into the summer so that we come back strong but we know that they are going to give us a tough game as they have aspirations of getting into the play-offs and hopefully we can go there and stop that!”
“We know that they will have to come out and get all three points so they will come out attacking – we must be ready for that and hopefully we can come away with the points ourselves!”
Reflecting on the disappointing defeat to Grimsby Town last weekend, McKenzie said, “The first half was alright, but the second half wasn’t – we know that! But that’s been the story of our season – not being good enough at certain times and certain moments within games which is something that we must improve on going into next year, so hopefully we can put that right Saturday and in the last game against Shrewsbury.”
“The way that we lost to Grimsby is just something that we have to learn from. It’s happened quite a lot during this season where we have got ourselves in good positions and then chances haven’t gone our way – that’s something that we have to deal better with as a team and learn from going into next year.
“We are quite young in some positions, and it rubs off on people. It’s on the learning curve and we have to learn quickly in this game otherwise things like last Saturday will happen over and over – so hopefully it’s something that we will get right.”
“Barnet have something to play for on Saturday, but we have something to play for ourselves too! How we want to go into next year and how we want to look next year and in these last two games we are going to be able to do that, so, we have got something to play for – there is always something on the line and hopefully we can put things right in a season which hasn’t really gone the way that any of us wanted it too!”
The Gills fans will yet again travel in their numbers into the capital on Saturday as they have all season long – a fact not lost on McKenzie. “The fans have been fantastic all season,” he said.
“They have been brilliant and hopefully in these last two games we can give them something to smile about and something positive going into the summer!”
