McDonald joins Fleet

A familiar face is Garry Hill’s first signing for Ebbsfleet United.

Striker Cody McDonald has signed on the dotted line at Stonebridge Road and needs no introduction to Kent football followers.  He first came to attention playing with Dartford and an incredible strike rate of fourteen goals in fifteen games for Tony Burmans side to catch the attention of Norwich City scouts and he was off to East Anglia after just a couple of months at Princes Park.

He then spent his first spell at Gillingham on loan – scoring 25 times in 41 games – before Norwich sold to Coventry City from where he returned to Priestfield scoring a further 52 times in 160 games – indeed McDonald was the saviour as his goals undoubtedly kept Adrian Pennock’s side in League One two seasons ago.

He left for a season at AFC Wimbledon before being released last summer, and has been without a club ever since despite rumours linking him with many League clubs including for a third time Gillingham.

McDonald will wear the number seven shirt at Stonebridge Road and goes straight into the squad for Tuesday’s trip to Maidenhead United.

In other Ebbsfleet news this evening Kenny Clark has made the move to Dagenham & Redbridge on a permanent deal, having been the second longest serving player at the Kufflink Stadium.
