Sittingbourne travel to face Sevenoaks Town on Wednesday night at the start of a big month for the club, after a Jean Baptiste-Fischer penalty secured a remarkable come from behind win for the Brickies in a topsy-turvy game with AFC Croydon Athletic on Saturday.

Wednesday’s trip to Greatness Park is the second of six successive games away from the Staxson Stadium for Ryan Maxwells side with a trip to League leaders Three Bridges next Saturday, followed by games at Margate and the FA Trophy tie at Ebbsfleet to come next week.

But for boss Ryan Maxwell, only Wednesday night is important, for now at least!

“Saturday would have been a very entertaining game for the neutral to watch but not too sure from a manager’s point of view,” Maxwell told us.

“We needed players to step up on Saturday, and everyone stepped up. They didn’t feel sorry for themselves, not one bit of moaning. There is no doubt about the fight in this team, and they are getting better and better.”

“We are now away on Wednesday, which means a few of the boys will get an extra day’s rest beforehand – we may have a light session Tuesday night. We know that the game will be played on 4G and will be completely different opposition to Croydon, but we will give the game the utmost respect as we do to every single side that we play and will be ready come Wednesday evening!”

Croydon, who knocked the Brickies out of the FA Cup in August, raced into a two-goal lead inside twelve minutes through Noah Watson and Brandon Pierrick only for the home side to level before the twenty-minute mark courtesy of Luke Woodward and the ageless Derek Asamoah.

Woodward then put the home side ahead three minutes into the second half, but Kadell Daniel levelled a touch controversially from the penalty spot after Richie Hamill had appeared to be pushed over as the ball looped into the Brickies penalty area.

The home side then won a spot kick of their own and Baptiste coolly rolled the Brickies back in front – either side of two excellent saves from keeper Mitch Beeney to preserve the home side the points.
