There was local derby joy for Welling United as they enjoyed a rare league victory at Dartford. After the match, Wings’ manager Ryan Maxwell gave his thoughts.

“What a performance.” he said. “From start to finish I thought it was a very complete performance. We also got a clean sheet. We were very good in both halves. We were attacking, we were dynamic, we were great in the box, we defended set pieces. It was a really complete performance. I’m absolutely delighted.”

“We had a week to plan for it, and we did. We planned meticulously. Everything that we asked them to do was broken down into small detail, they did it, and that was why we had so much control in the game.”

“We tactically took it apart and everything we thought might happen, happened, so we were prepared for it, we were ahead of the game. We wrote the script, we didn’t react, we were ahead of the performance. That’s why we were so controlled.”

Explaining his changes from the starting line up when they beat Stanway Rovers four-nil seven days earlier, Maxwell confirmed: “Nothing was performance related, it was tactical. We changed the centre back and we thought we’d be more dynamic by doing that and it seemed to work so I’m happy.”

He also brought in Zak O’Keefe for his second Welling debut. “That’s a boy with great character.” he purred. “He might be young but he’s so mature. I’m delighted to have him back. It’s a great addition again.”

Everyone played well and it was hard to select a man of the match. Maxwell said: “I thought Demaray (Anyadike) was outstanding today. I thought Tyrell (Rodney-Miller) was outstanding, There’s lots. Coops (Nathan Bertram-Cooper) and Lekan (Majoyegbe) were outstanding. I think it was a team performance again.”

There was also mention of Mackenzie Foley “What a great goalkeeper.” Maxwell said. “He can kick it, he can claim it, he can save it, he’s a fantastic keeper and three clean sheets out of four games, brilliant.”

“Clean sheets are the difference in games like this. You’ve got to stay really composed and really resolute and the boys did that, so I was absolutely delighted with a clean sheet. That’s three out of four.”
