Maxwell can’t wait for the weekend

Sittingbourne return to home League action this weekend for the first time since the August Bank Holiday weekend when they welcome Erith and Belvedere to Woodstock Park and boss Ryan Maxwell cannot wait…

The Brickies boss had called for a response from his players after seeing his side meekly bowing out of the FA Trophy at neighbours Sheppey United the week before and overall, the Irishman, when speaking to KSN this week was a lot happier.

“We got what must be a good point at Sevenoaks – another side who are “going for it.” On paper away from home it was a difficult fixture in a very competitive League.” Maxwell told us.

“But after a good week’s training, I was confident that we would get something especially after signing Chris Arthur in the week. We got a point, but we all know that we should have got three as the performance overall was very good.”

“They were honest in their debrief that we should have won as well – but we did not though, we did not get beaten, as that could have happened too.”

“For me this was always about the performance right now, and I have to be very pleased with it – I’ve watched the game back, I’ve seen our chances and how we conducted ourselves with how they carried out the instructions given to them… so I’m pleased with the performance, but still know that there is more to come.”

“It was a great debut for Chris (Arthur) – I thought he was brilliant and he’s added something else to the team. He’s not just an experienced player, he’s also a very good athlete still and that is important!”

“We were all disappointed at our Trophy exit at Sheppey and I asked for a response at the weekend and I certainly got it – I would say nearly every player could come off the pitch last week saying, “I was good today!” – some were better than others, but across the board the listening to and carrying out instructions was certainly carried out.”

“I was a much, much happier man last weekend – yes, we did not get what we deserved, but if we perform like that over thirty odd games, I will be a very happy manager!”

“We are finally back at home in the League Saturday after what seems like an age and your home ground is what you want to protect at all costs – your home form is vital!”

“We are facing another very good side – another team certainly being backed this year. We know it will be a tough game; we have trained well this week, and we will be prepared, and we have got to play at our best – there is no easy games in this League, and we do not take anyone for granted and know we must be at our best!”
