Marshall may be allowed to leave

The South London Press reported on Friday that Charlton would be willing to let winger, M‎ark Marshall, leave the club.

Marshall was one of Karl Robinson top targets last summer, and he arrived at The Valley as Bradford’s Player of the Year.

The Jamaican winger missed the first three months of the season with the knee injury he picked up at Stevenage in July.

Marshall has made a total of 31 appearances for the Addicks, including 7 as a substitute.

He scored one of the goals in the 3-1 FA Cup win over Truro at The Valley in November, and he also netted the only goal at Bury in January.

Lee Bowyer did not appear to rate Marshall highly, and rarely used the 31-year-old during his tenure.

Marshall did not even make the substitutes bench for the second leg of the play-off semi-final at Shrewsbury last month.

Marshall is one of Charlton’s top earners, and still has a year of his contract to run. His salary may make it difficult for the Addicks to move him on.

The decision to let him go suggests that Bowyer is still influential, and it is possible he may carry on as the boss next season.

The club announced another pre-season game on Friday. They will entertain Norwich at The Valley on Saturday 28 July.

The game will be Charlton’s final warm up game before the season kicks-off on 4 August. The Canaries visited SE7 last July, winning 2-0.

The Addicks have now arranged five pre-season games, but have a gap in their diary between 5 and 18 July‎.

They may schedule an overseas training camp between these dates, and play a couple of while games abroad.
