Floodlight football returns to The Alex Yee Ladywell Arena this evening when Lewisham Borough Community FC host Phoenix Sports in a Southern Counties East Football League Challenge Cup Round Two match.

After a slow start, Division One Lewisham had won four league games in a row before visiting former ground-sharers SE Dons in Chatham on Saturday. The Borough went ahead one minute before half time courtesy of a goal by John Garcia. They held the lead until five minutes before time when Georgi Steeds equalised.
It has been a mixed season for the Sports in the Premier Division too. After a five match unbeaten spell, they have lost their last three, one in the Kent Senior Trophy, one in the FA Vase, and a league match at Rusthall where Daniel Blunn scored the only goal for the hosts with five minutes remaining.
Both teams had byes in the first round and the respective managers, Lloyd Davis of Lewisham, and Sports’ Jake Goodman, who also plays, will be looking at this competition as an opportunity to win some silverware. Therefore they will probably put out strong sides in the hope of emulating last year’s winners, Snodland Town.
