Lewisham Borough v AFC Whyteleafe preview

Ladywell Stadium hosts a SCEFL Division One cup tie this evening when Lewisham Borough entertain AFC Whyteleafe.

Due to the short number of clubs in the division, there are just sixteen, this cup has been devised to increase the number of games played.

Four groups of four teams were arranged at the start of the season. By chance, the top two teams in the Southern Counties East Football League first division, with Borough in second place and their guests top, are in the same group.

At present, Lewisham are top of the group and have two games left to play, Whyteleafe home and away. Whyteleafe have played one game fewer and have a home tie against Tooting Bec scheduled in between the double with Borough.

Lloyd Davis’ Lewisham will be keen to avenge their defeat to the same opposition in the SCEFL Challenge Cup when they were beaten two-nil at Church Road. The Leafe went on to beat Tunbridge Wells in the quarter final and await news of their opposition in the last four.

The two teams met in the league already with Whyteleafe having come out on top 2-1, where Lewisham are seven points behind having played two games fewer, so this will be the latest of five matches between the two sides this season.

Both sides will want to win for psychological reasons as well as the three points.
