Last lap crash for Dixon in Portugal

Jake Dixon was in a fight for sixth place when he crashed out of the race ok the final lap of the Portuguese Moto2 Grand Prix.

The Algarve International Circuit hosted the 21st Moto2 race of the season on Sunday with the 4.59km track bathed in sunshine and mild ambient temperatures of 19 degrees.

A total of 73,575 fans were in attendance on Sunday to watch the penultimate Moto2 race of 2025.

Starting from second on the grid, Jake enjoyed a steady start and ended the first lap in third place behind Diogo Moreira and Collin Veijer.

It soon became clear the 29-year old didn’t have ideal rear grip, and struggled to keep up with the podium contenders.

The Dover born rider started the final lap in seventh and was chasing down sixth when he crashed out at Turn three.

Speaking after the weekend, Dixon said: “We crashed out on the last lap, unfortunately. I had been pushing over the limit for a long time in that race. I really struggled.

“When we had grip yesterday, I was able to do the job. But it just didn’t seem to come easy then. I didn’t have the rear grip on entry or exit. Lap by lap it was getting worse, which started to cause some problems. I never gave up. I tried everything until the end.

“Unfortunately, I went defensive into Turn three on the last lap so the guys behind didn’t come up the inside of me and I just closed the front. That was my mistake. But this is what happens when you’re pushing at the limit.

“I’m happy overall because again I was running as the top Boscoscuro. I felt I was making the difference to the others and am extracting the most out of the package. It’s a shame how it ended, but we’ll go again in a couple of days.”
