Deal Town are one of the Isthmian South East form sides as they are currently enjoying a run of just a defeat to leaders Three Bridges in their last nine games – a run that has lifted them to the edge of the early season play-off places.

This weekend as his side prepares to welcome Kevin Watson’s Sheppey United to the Charles Ground, boss Steve King has been talking to KSN.

“We’re on a really good run and are looking forward to a really tough game against a good Sheppey side who have been doing well. I know that they have been a little bit inconsistent at times, but Kev (Watson, the Sheppey boss) is a good, experienced manager. They have had some good recent results winning their last couple and have quite a few players coming back as well. It’s a game that we are all looking forward to.”

“We are on a good run and if you remember the ninety-fifth minute equaliser that Margate got against us, it would have been eight wins in nine. We lost at Bridges who were good on the day as you would expect from their League position – we didn’t have the greatest of starts, but we were dealt with a very tough hand in terms of fixtures early doors.

“We proved with the FA Cup run that we had that we are a decent side and that has been transferred into this run in the League which has catapulted us up the table and got us into a decent, solid position after fourteen games. We know how quickly things can change, we had a couple of tough runs mid-season last year and we are going to obviously try to avoid that this year!”

“We know Saturday will be tough, but we’ve got away games to Croydon and Jersey with a home game against Faversham coming after the weekend. That’s why my feet are on the ground as I never get carried away, as you always know what is coming – we block our fixtures into sets, and we know that we have a difficult set coming up!”

“But having said that, we are looking forward to them and to testing ourselves – we certainly won’t go into them with any fear. Sheppey is tough this week, AFC Croydon are going really well, we had our history with Faversham and earlier in the season when they beat us comfortably and then comes a trip to Jersey and it won’t get much easier after that as I thing we go to Sittingbourne a couple of weeks after that.

“We know this League now, and we know what’s coming. We don’t get carried away when things are going really well like they are at the minute, but we also won’t panic with a couple of defeats in a really tough run of games.

“We will try and stay level headed and make sure that we are consistent across a forty-two-game season and hope that we end up where we deserve to be come the end of the year!”
