Kent submit plans to improve Canterbury

Kent Cricket have confirmed that plans have been submitted to Canterbury City Council as part of the next phase of ground improvements at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury.

As well as providing details of a number of smaller projects, including the installation of permanent fencing and gates to replace temporary structures that have been in place since 2014.

All work being done is a part of the Club’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment, in-line with Kent Cricket’s EDI Action Plan.

Other improvements include:

 A new match officials area that will have inclusive changing facilities

 A multi-faith room

 A Changing Places toilet alongside an accessible viewing platform by the Leslie Ames Stand

Computer-generated images, produced in partnership with Lee Evans Partnership, provide insight into a vision of improvements to The Spitfire Ground over a five-year time period.

The Club is now focused on identifying funding available for each element of these projects, which is anticipated will be implemented as part of a phased development plan.

In addition, under previously approved plans, work has already begun that includes a new modular multi-purpose gym for the Club’s professional and age group players ahead of pre-season training in the New Year.

The Club is also looking into improving covered and uncovered seating areas around the ground.
