Kent set to name unchanged side

Kent are set to name an unchanged side for the Championship game with Gloucestershire that is set to begin at Canterbury on Thursday.

Having won so comfortably against Northamptonshire last week by an innings and 120 runs, Kent coach Jimmy Adams and skipper Rob Key seem set to keep faith with the same eleven that served them so well in only their second game of the season.

That will see Scott Newman once again partner Key at the top of the order with Ben Harmison coming in next.

The middle order of Brandan Nash, Mike Powell and Darren Stevens go into the game in a rich vein of form after all scoring heavily in the first few games of the season.

Despite scoring 150 for the second eleven in recent days, Sam Northeast will once again have to wait for his chance to break back into the first eleven.

The bowling attack all but picks itself at present with James Tredwell, Matt Coles, Mark Davies and Charlie Shreck all having been amongst the wickets in the first couple of Championship games.

Having taken six wickets in Northamptonshire’s second innings last week and hitting his maiden century against Yorkshire the week before, Matt Coles goes into the game full of confidence and had this to say to the club’s official website:

“It is certainly nice to be back at our home of cricket. It is extra special for me, as a home-grown player, because it is where it all started. Hopefully we can record another victory, to make it two wins and a draw, and go from there. Our support is excellent and it is always a great help when the fans get right behind you; it gives you an even bigger buzz.”

Chris Piesley has been named as twelfth man for the game that seems set to be interupted by wet weather over the four days.

Kent’s 12 man squad to play Gloucestershire: Scott Newman, Rob Key, Ben Harmison, Brendan Nash, Mike Powell, Darren Stevens, Geraint Jones, James Tredwell, Matt Coles, Mark Davies, Charlie Shreck, Chris Piesley.

Play is scheduled to start at 11am on each of the four days with tickets available from www.kentcricket.co.uk
