Kent clubs to stage charity game

On Sunday 29th September VCD Old Boys play Phoenix Old Boys at VCD’s Oakwood stadium in aid of Sepsis awareness and for Joe Ford to help him adjust to his life changing illness.

There will be an auction and raffle in the club bar after the game with some great sports memorabilia to be won.

Ford is a football coach who runs his own coaching school, JMF Coaching, and was managing Sporting Club Thamesmead when he fell ill in March. He went to Queen Mary’s hospital where he collapsed and was rushed to Princess Royal University hospital.

After coming out of a nine day induced coma he went to Kings College Hospital before being transferred to St. Thomas’ to have an operation to have his lower right leg amputated. He is currently recuperating in the rehabilitation centre in Lambeth.

His father, Martin Ford, is well known in North West Kent having managed VCD Athletic from 1993 until 2007 and Erith and Belvedere where Joe joined him as coach. They then worked together as joint managers at Erith Town.
