Charlton fans will have one eye on proceedings in League One on Tuesday evening, even though their team is not involved.

‎The performance on Saturday has heightened belief that the team can have a good finish to the season.

The backing the fans gave the team at Fratton Park was magnificent, they started singing from way before kick-off and never stopped.

It was another example of the ‘togetherness’ that Lee Bowyer values so highly. Bowyer will be grateful that his team have a midweek respite, while most of their rivals will be in action.

Already promoted Wigan make the long trek to Bristol Rovers, and second placed Blackburn cross the Pennines to face Doncaster.

A win for Blackburn would guarantee them joining Wigan in the Championship next season. Rovers then travel to The Valley to face the Addicks on Saturday.

Plymouth are four points behind Charlton, but have two games in hand. Three of those four games are away from home, and they will entertain Rotherham in their remaining fixture at Home Park.

On Tuesday they make the long trip to Rochdale, who are also desperate for points, as they bid to avoid the drop to League Two.

Peterborough are seven points adrift of the Addicks, but have a game in hand – at Shrewsbury on Tuesday.

Anything other than a win will end Posh’s slim promotion hopes.

Sky Sports News will no doubt have their viewing figures boosted by anxious fans of a south London club that play in red and white!
