Kedwell appointed Ashford manager

Just days after having left Chatham Town, former Gillingham striker Danny Kedwell has taken on his first managerial role at Ashford United.

Kedwell is well known to football fans across Kent having played for the likes of Welling United and Ebbsfleet United, but has been working under Kevin Hake at Chatham Town this past season, playing alongside his role as Assistant Manager.

Now the former striker will be looking to bring his footballing philosophy to Ashford and help the side get promotion come this time next year.

Kedwell has amassed a career total of 612 appearances and 228 goals, which includes playing spells at Ebbsfleet United (174), AFC Wimbledon (118) and of course Chatham Town (34).

Having put pen to paper on the deal at Ashford United, Kedwell said: “Firstly, I would like to put on record, my sincere gratitude to everyone at Chatham Town Football Club. My time there has been unbelievable, with great memories and making friends for life.”

“I wish them every success as they push for greater things, which I’m sure will come.”

“Ashford United is a great club, with excellent facilities, people and fans. I can’t wait to get started! It’s going to be a busy few months planning, getting players in and talking to our current players. But we will be ready and on the front foot, come the first kick of the new season.”

Don Crosbie has welcomed Kedwell to the club, saying:

“We all at AUFC are pleased to announce Danny Kedwell as our new first team boss. Anyone who knows Danny will understand what a great addition to AUFC he and his assistant will prove.”

“Danny has done amazing at Chatham assisting with back to back promotions and just missed out on a consecutive third promotion losing to Enfield in the Premier league play off final.”

“Danny’s CV speaks for itself and having known Danny’s style and determination there are two things that stand out. Great football and a desire at all times to win. Two excellent traits if our ambitions are to be achieved.”

“The club’s new owners are fully behind the appointment and are really looking forward to the new season ahead and can’t wait to be fully involved in the push for success here at this great club. Onwards & Upwards.”

Director Of Football, Alan Walker added:

“As we near the completion of the takeover process, maintaining the integrity and performance of the footballing aspect is paramount. With the endorsement of the new ownership, Don Crosbie has selected an exceptional first-team manager in Danny.”

“Possessing a steadfast winning mindset and a profound understanding of non-league football, Danny’s appointment is eagerly anticipated, and we are eager to witness the positive impact he will undoubtedly bring to the club.”
