Johnson makes Gills move permanent

Gillingham have made Tyreke Johnson’s move to Priestfield a permanent one having initially joined the club on loan.

The 22 year old attacking midfielder / forward initially joined The Gills on loan from Southampton a couple of weeks ago, making his debut for the club in the 1-0 loss to Burton Albion on Saturday 9th January.

Johnson was an unused substitute in the 1-0 win at Accrington Stanley at the weekend, but has clearly done enough to impress manager Steve Evans into making the move a permanent one.

Making the deal permanent also frees up a loan spot amongst Evans’ squad with Tom O’Connor and Callum Slattery also on loan from The Saints.

A statement from Southampton Football Club following Johnson’s departure reads:

“The club would like to thank Tyreke for all his hard work and dedication throughout his time here, and wish him all the very best for the future.”
