Jewiss set for penultimate round

Kiern Jewiss is ready and prepared for the ninth, and penultimate, round of the 2017 Ginetta Junior Championship at Silverstone this weekend.

After working tremendously hard to reduce the gap to the championship leader from 72 points to just 17, Kiern’s hard work and title hopes were undone with a disastrous weekend at Rockingham, where the FM Conway-sponsored driver experienced his toughest weekend of the season.

Now dropping 78 points back in the title hunt, Kiern still remains as one to watch having secured eleven podiums finishes so far in his debut campaign, including his maiden victory at Knockhill.

This success in his maiden year means that Kiern is on the cusp of winning the 2017 Rookie Cup title, with the 15-year old needing to outscore fellow rookie, Adam Smalley, by a single point to clinch the crown this weekend.

This weekend’s trip to the ‘home of British motor racing’ sees the Ginetta Junior field do battle on the 1.639-mile National Circuit, a shortened version of the Grand Prix Circuit, and Kiern is confident he can return to the front of the grid.

“Rockingham was a disappointing weekend and I’m hoping to bounce back as quickly as possible. We have testing on Thursday so we’ll be able to see if the problems, that haunted us in Rockingham, are finally behind us. Silverstone is a track I’ve been waiting years to drive on, so this weekend is going special, especially if I can be crowned the Rookie Champion.”

Kiern’s tally of 422 points sees him currently occupy 4th in the Drivers’ Championship and he has helped his Douglas Motorsport team to a 58 point adavantage in the Teams’ Championship.

Barry Mears, Head of the MBP Academy, believes Kiern will be back to his best this weekend.

“Kiern is extremely motivated heading to Silverstone this weekend and has been working hard ever since leaving Rockingham at the end of last month. I’m fully confident Kiern has the capability to return to the podium this weekend and battle for race victories.”
