Jakubiak ends Gills loan spell

On the final day of the January transfer deadline, Gillingham have received the news that top scorer Alex Jakubiak has been recalled from his loan by parent club Watford.

Jakubiak netted seven timed from for Steve Evans’ side – the first coming on the opening day draw at Doncaster Rovers and his final strike coming at Fleetwood just before Christmas.

Jakubiak has followed Mark Marshall, Mikael Mdjoli and Ouss Cisse away from Priestfield in January.

Manager Evans told the club’s official website: “During the last couple of weeks I’ve had several chats regarding match minutes with Alex and Nigel Pearson at Watford. The summary was that I could not give any guarantees on this and Alex felt, with his contract up at the end of the season, it was essential for him.”

“He is a quality player and will be a real asset for his next club. He goes from here with all our best wishes; I really want the kid to be successful. He is a real professional and a real credit to Watford.”
