The jury is still very much out on  Tahnoon Nimer.

Charlton Athletic’s Lyle Taylor celebrates scoring a penalty against Reading with team mates

He is certainly rich enough to run a Championship team, and he is making reassuring noises about funding. But thus far, he has not actually put any money into the club.

A few ‎weeks ago said he would put money into the club “immediately”, then at the end of March he said the money would be put into the club in April. We are now entering the second half of the month, but still the money has not arrived. Until it does arrive fans’ nagging doubts will escalate.

Lee Bowyer said Nimer has promised financial backing‎ to get the club through the problems caused by the Coronavirus outbreak. Bowyer warned that some members of‎ staff may have to be furloughed, but the survival of the club was the most important thing.

Here is what Bowyer had to say about his conversation with Nimer:

“You will get financial backing (said Nimeer).

“Tahnoon said not to worry – that we will get through this on a secure footing.

“He said that we are going to have financial backing.

“At the moment we are talking about the best way forward. If we have to furlough some of the staff we will. The most important thing is the survival of the club.

“We are one of the clubs which will struggle financially in this situation and that is something we talk about. We are ensuring we make the right decisions at the right time.”‎

Worrying times indeed. Bowyer went on to explain how the players were coping with the situation;

“They are in constant contact and keeping the banter going but it may be hard to sustain if we still don’t know if and when we will play again.

“And it is tough mentally to keep running to the park but they are good lads and they are getting on wi‎th it.”

As always, Bowyer was open and honest, and detailed just how difficult the situation is for everyone at the club‎.
