The Under-21s notched up a comfortable 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest on Monday afternoon.

Goals from Brandon Hanlan, Kenneth Yao and Regan Charles-Cook gave Jason Euell’s team an unassailable lead. Gerry McDonagh scored a late consolation for Forest from the penalty spot.

Following Saturday’s dramatic win over Birmingham, Jose Riga’s side face two tough away games in four days.

The Addicks travel to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, but before that, they will face Ipswich at Portman Road on Tuesday evening.

The Tractor boys are five points adrift of the play-off places, and defeat by Charlton would effectively kill off their promotion prospects.

Mick McCarthy’s outfit have only won eight of their nineteen games at Portman Road this season, which will give the Addicks some encouragement.

Riga’s team are in decent form at the moment and have taken ten points from their last five games. They are six points from safety with seven games to go, and desperately need three points to keep their faint survival flame flickering.

Daryl Murphy is a doubt for Ipswich but teenage midfield starlet, Teddy Bishop, could make his first appearance of the season from the bench.

Riga will have Yaya Sanogo available again after suspension, but may not want to tinker with the team that won on Saturday.

Alou Diarra’s foot problem will need to be monitored, but the Frenchman is determined to play through the pain barrier as he explained to the club’s site:

“I am still feeling pain but I have to push. I have a crack in my right foot and it is not easy but I am going to give everything until the end of the season.

“I will carry on with my treatment, I am feeling better and I want to keep playing.

“I refused to miss this game(Birmingham) because it was so important for us. I tried to come back quickly and, now I am back in the team, I will give everything.

“We still have a chance to stay in the Championship and we have to keep playing like we did on Saturday. We have seven finals to play and if we show the same spirit then we can do it.

“It was a tough game and as a team we showed character and good spirit to come back.

“It was difficult but we put in a great performance and we are happy that we were able to win the game.

“It is not enough for us, though, we have to keep going and prepare for our next game on Tuesday. We will have to be solid and continue to be focussed,” said Diarra.

Riga will probably introduce Sanogo from the bench, and Ademola Lookman will be pressing for a starting berth. With Yun Suk-Young unavailable on Saturday though, the head coach may opt to continue with the South Korean in this game.

Charlton could look like this:

Pope; Motta, Fanni, Teixeira, Fox; Gudmundsson, Cousins, Diarra, Yun; Vetokele, Harriott.

Subs; Henderson, Solly, Lennon, Jackson, Lookman, Sanogo, Makienok.

Oliver Langford from the West Midlands will be the man in charge.

A nervous evening beckons for Addicks fans, who will be keeping tabs on how those immediately above them are faring.
