The Invicta Dynamos stretched their unbeaten run to thirteen games on Sunday night with a tight cup win over the Wightlink Raiders.Juraj Huska3

Having disposed of the London Raiders 6-1 in the league away from home on Saturday evening, Kevin Parrish’s side returned to Gillingham looking to extend their magnificent run against a Raiders side that had five more players in which to choose from.

Fresh from the news that import Jakub Klima had played his last game for the club and was set to join the London Raiders, the Dynamos took to the ice with just 14 in which to choose from and two of those were netminders, with Andy Smith still away on honeymoon, whilst both Grant Baxter and Jake Luton were in action with the Mustangs.

However, it didn’t seem to be much of a problem for the Dynamos though as they opened the scoring with just eighteen seconds on the clock as Callum Fowler fired home.

A minute later and it was 2-0 as Danny Hammond roofed his shot into the net from distance, much to the delight of the majority packed into the Silver Blades Ice Bowl.

The Dynamos weren’t to have it all their own way though with the Raiders pulling one back just over a minute later as they took full advantage of the game’s first powerplay.

With fans still settling themselves in their seats, it was 3-1 to the Dynamos in the sixth minute as Juraj Huska made sure the home side used their numerical superiority by firing into the roof of the net.

That’s the way it was to stay until the end of the period, but the lead wasn’t to last long in the second with the Raiders coming out all guns blazing.

By the 32nd minute the game was all square once again as Wightlink showed they hadn’t come to Medway to make the numbers up with the two teams go into the break at three apiece.

In a tense and often frenetic final twenty minutes, the game swayed to and fro as both sides wrestled for the two points, but it was to ultimately be the Dynamos that came out on top.

Just twelve seconds had past when Dan Fudger rounded off a superbly worked move from Peter Beerling and Fowler.

Fifty eight seconds further on and it was level once again as the Raiders fired past Chris Douglas over his shoulder and into the top corner.

With the game now on a knife edge and the tension almost unbearable in the stands, the Dynamos went through the gears to finish off the period and they were rewarded at the start of the 51st minute when Huska bundled home his second of the night.

The import was to cap a final individual performance and that from the team with just over two minutes to go as he scored the sixth as the Dynamos capitalised on a two on one after being played in by Fowler.

At the end of the day, it is another two points that see the Dynamos end the weekend second in the league and cup group to the Chelmsford Chieftains, but by the narrowest of margins.

They head to Cardiff on Saturday night for their latest league game before returning to Gillingham on Sunday evening to take on Milton Keynes Thunder in the next of their cup games with face off at 5:15pm.

The way the side are playing at the moment, you’d be mad to miss it!
