Invicta Dynamos suffered a 7-3 defeat to Streatham IHC in the first leg of the NIHL South cup final.

Dynamos were missing Gregor McAllen, Kieron Jones and Mark Williams. While Streatham iced 18 players, but new forward Luke Brittle missed out.

Zachary Grandy-Smith started in net for the Dynamos. Former Dynamos netminder, Damian King was between the pipes for Streatham.

First period begun and the Dynamos were soon on the powerplay as Conor Redmond received a two-minute penalty for elbowing.

Streatham’s Ryan Watt attempted to score the first of the game, but his shot bounced and went wide. Adam Wood collected the puck and attempted a slapshot from the top corner, but the puck goes over the plexiglass and into the crowd.

Dynamos were back to full strength but not for long as Tomas Banovsky sat a two-minute hooking penalty.

Watt’s shot produced a rebound which was picked up by former Dynamos winger Scott Bailey. Bailey managed to control the puck and put it past Grandy-Smith. Powerplay goal for Streatham scored at 5:53.

Streatham’s netminder King received a two-minute tripping penalty after wiping out Banovsky. First powerplay for the Dynamos.

Arran Strawson jumped on the loose punk and shot from the slot, but King managed to send it wide. Powerplay over.

Goal two for Streatham as Watt managed to send the puck flying over Grandy-Smith. Goal scored at 12:39.

Powerplay for the Dynamos as Andrew Cook sat a two-minute penalty for interference.

Being shorthanded did not stop Adam Carr from skating down centre ice and firing the puck beyond Grandy-Smith. Goal three for Streatham scored at 14:03.

Carr secured himself another goal as the player-coach fired from the slot. Goal four for Streatham scored at 17:18.

Dynamos last attempt at a goal before the end of the period. Juraj Huska fired the puck but King caught it.

End of first and Streatham led 4-0.

Dynamos pulled Grandy-Smith for youngster Owen Rider ahead of the second period.

Second period begun and Banovsky managed to slam a slapshot from the back of the left circle beyond King. Goal one for Invicta scored at 24:54.

Straight after the Dynamos goal, Watt attempted to score a hat trick but Rider robbed him of the chance.

Meanwhile behind the play, Brandon Miles was trying to get Dynamos defenceman Henry Aiken to fight. The Dynamo shrugged Miles off.

Dynamos were not able to clear the puck and Danny Ingoldsby took advantage and swept the puck low and beyond Rider. Goal five for Streatham scored at 29:38. The visitors now led 5-1.

Strawson found himself close left and managed to shoot the puck off the underside of the crossbar and in. Goal two for the Dynamos scored at 30:20.

Straight off the offensive faceoff, Ben Paynter skated down the ice and shot the puck past Rider. Goal six for Streatham scored at 30:34.

Miles was on the breakaway, but Rider denied him twice. Behind the play Harrison Lillis and Michael Farn were coming together. Bailey decided he’d step in for his teammate. The pair dropped the gloved but as Lillis removed his helmet Bailey took advantage and left his on as he punched the Dynamos defenceman. Lillis won with the takedown.

While penalties were being sorted out, Miles decided to gesture to the whole Dynamos bench. Officials ignored his remarks.

Lillis received two minutes for instigating and a further 2+2 for fighting. Bailey received a 2+2 for fighting.

End of the second period and the Dynamos trailed 6-2.

Third period was under way and the Dynamos managed to kill Lillis’ penalty. Straight onto a powerplay as Jordan Gregory sat two-minutes for holding.

Dynamos tried to claw back a goal as Ryan Giles attempted a slapshot from the blue line, but it was deflected into the corner.

Powerplay over as Streatham pinned the Dynamos once again. However, the Dynamos were soon back on the man advantage as Farn received two-minutes for slashing.

Dell fired a slapshot, but it hit King square in the chest. Easy save for the netminder.

Streatham’s Watt secured his hat trick as he poked a loose puck past Rider. Goal seven for Streatham scored at 48:19. Watt celebrated by removing his helmet and gesturing to the away fans, he received a 10-minute misconduct penalty.

Rupert Quiney soon joined his teammate in the penalty box as he received a two-minute penalty for interference.

Dynamos on the powerplay and Huska fired a shot to the crease where Tom Davis was waiting. Davis flicked the puck off the crossbar and into the net. Powerplay goal for the Dynamos scored at 52:40 which made the score 7-3 to Streatham.

Streatham thought they had scored another with Miles’ shot from the boards. Streatham players celebrated. The officials waited a while before waving off the goal and giving the Dynamos a penalty shot for an incident a minute earlier.

Dell took the penalty shot but made a mistake by going low on King who saved with ease.

Game back underway and Wood received a two-minute penalty for elbowing. Streatham called for a timeout at 57:03.

End of the game and Streatham won the first leg of the cup final 7-3. Dynamos battled hard but were never able to catch up with the visitors who got a little slack with their discipline and therefore penalties later in the third.
