It was an emphatic 12-4 win for the Invicta Dynamos as they thrashed the Streatham Redskins in their opening NIHL Southern Cup fixture of the season.140920_26

Kevin Parrish’s side were on top form as they breezed past their opponents to avenge last season’s cup semi-final defeat and made it three wins in the row for the new campaign.

Going into the game, the Dynamos were once again without the suspended Billy and Charlie Phillips with Grant Baxter not icing, whilst Streatham took to the ice with an almost full compliment.

However, it was the Dynamos that opened the scoring in just the sixth minute as Callum Fowler bagged his first of the night.

Less than ninety seconds later and it was 2-0 when Nicky Lewis slammed the puck home from the blue line much to the delight of the home support.

The visitors though weren’t to be denied and Chris Douglas was beaten for the first time in the ninth minute as Steven Fisher turned the puck home.

With Streatham back in the game, the Dynamos upped the tempo once again and it took them just seven seconds from the restart to restore their two goal lead with Steve Osman getting himself on the scoresheet.

Once again the visitors came roaring back into the tie and they made it 3-2 just over a minute later with American Sean Scarborough firing home.

The Dynamos weren’t to be denied a fourth goal though before the break with Juraj Huska claiming his first of the night just into the 19th minute.

It was a more cagey affair in the second period with Streatham sitting slightly deeper as the Dynamos looked to pick them off and it took until the 32nd minute for the game to burst into life again when Louis Lockwood pegged the score back to 4-3.140920_21

With the fear that they might be throwing the game away, the Dynamos went up another gear and just 14 seconds later Osman claimed his second goal of the night.

In the closing minutes of the period, up stepped captain Anthony Leone to calm some nerves by firing in two goals in the space of the final five minutes to make it 7-3 at the break.

If ever there was any doubt as to who was going to go on and win the game, the Dynamos came out of the traps flying in the final period with Huska claiming another just two minutes in after being set free by Osman..

Exactly a minute later and it was 9-3 as Leone claimed his hat-trick, scoring at the second attempt as Streatham began to wilt under the onslaught of wave after wave of Dynamos attacks.

It was double figures for the Dynamos before the 45th minute with Fowler slamming home after great work by Greg Chambers and Harrison Lillis.

Streatham didn’t give up entirely though and they got what turned out to be a consolation as they made the most of a powerplay with Michal Oravec turned and shot past Douglas.140920_29

There was still time for the Dynamos to add to their tally though with Huska claiming his hat-trick in the 55th minute and the night was capped in perfect fashion as Leone secured his 4th of the evening in the 59th minute.

The victory sees the Dynamos go straight to the top of their cup group and on this evidence they should give Chelmsford Chieftains a run for their money when the two teams meet for the league fixture in Essex on Sunday night.

The Dynamos will next be in action back in Gillingham on Sunday 28th September when they entertain Milton Keynes Lightning in the cup with face off at 5:15pm.
