Igor move called off

Former Addick, Andy Hughes, led his Bolton Under-21 team to a 2-1 victory over Charlton at the Macron Stadium on Monday evening.

A strong Trotters outfit included former Millwall midfielder, Liam Trotter, in their line-up. Trotter opened the scoring after 32 minutes, and Rob Holding added the second on the stroke of half-time. Josh Staunton netted a last minute consolation goal for the Addicks.

The South London Press is reporting that Igor Vetokele’s loan move away from The Valley will not now happen until the Angolan has recovered full fitness.

Vetokele was plagued by Achilles injuries last season, and perhaps played when it would have been advisable to rest the injury.

However, the simple stats are, Vetokele has scored just three goals in his last twenty-eight league appearances for the Charlton. He will be keen to get game time and regain full match fitness.

He is on a long term deal at The Valley, and will be on decent money. If he does not figure as a major player in Guy Luzon’s immediate plans, it is understandable that the club would want to remove his wages from the salary bill.

Whether the savings on Vetokele’s wages would be used to cut the annual deficit, or reinvested in another player, remains to be seen.
